Montreal Restaurants navigate Covid & Technology.

As the months begin to pile up since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic here in Montreal, many businesses have simply either had to close down or reduce their services significantly. Among the industries hardest hit is the restaurant industry.

Due to the Code Red regulations during this second wave, all restaurants have been ordered to close their dining rooms and only offer Delivery or pickup service for their clients. While this does allow restaurants to continue operating, a vast percentage of restaurants in the city heavily relies on the use of their dining rooms to keep profitable.

From indoors to online.

While the majority of restaurants have suffered due to the Covid-19 Code Red regulations, some were lucky enough to remain afloat through online ordering using platforms like TakeoutEats, Skip the Dishes, UberEats, Doordash & more. Others not utilizing these platforms or their own websites for ordering sit in limbo waiting for indoor dining to be permitted again.

This poses a big problem because making big changes to your business structure is always difficult, not to mention during a pandemic. In order to survive, we must be flexible and the reality of who is flexible and who is not is being exposed. As unfortunate as the situation is we must grasp the lesson of “BUSINESS FLEXIBILITY”.

Is Online ordering a Must have for Restaurants?

Well, the truth is no, because that just might not be the solution for everyone, but in this current climate and for the foreseeable future it seems to be leaning towards becoming an essential part of the restaurant business model. Technology is here and it’s not going away.
