3 Reasons you should always keep your website up to date.

Dec 20, 2021

Having a website is no simple task, it’s definitely a job in itself and something that requires your attention. Many people build websites and often forget about them in two major ways, either it’s by not making content updates or not keeping the platform updated along with its plugins, or a combination of both.

In this article, we’ll quickly outline 3 reasons you should always keep your website up to date.

You keep your users and yourself safe.

This is extremely important for all websites but especially websites using content management systems. CMSs and their plugins often go through version updates that correct bugs, increase security measures or exploits, or add new features. Support is usually still available for the previous versions of the CMS when newer versions come out but it’s always recommended to be using the latest version of the software. Hacked websites can cause unbelievable amounts of damage to a business as it tends to expose not only your website’s data but also your client’s data.

Your users will appreciate it.

Nobody likes old news and that’s I’d say more true than ever these days. You could say we live in a popcorn culture where we want it now and we want it fast. If every time someone visits your website and there’s new information you can provide them, it’s a better experience, and chances are they’ll keep returning if it’s what they like.

If you’re never updating your website, frequent visitors stop seeing a reason to visit (mainly blogs), and new users are left to think what’s there is up to date regarding you even if that isn’t the case. You may have changed your office hours but haven’t made the changes to your website. This is already starting off negatively as a possible client could view that as incompetence or unprofessional. In all efforts try to keep the content of your website consistent with your business or brand’s current profile.

Google will Love you.

One of the main goals of most people who build a website is for them to show up on the first page of Google searches. As this is an extremely difficult task to accomplish in a short period of time, there are practices you can follow to help aid yourself in accomplishing that goal, that practice being blogging.

You see, Google’s crawler boots are constantly scanning the internet as it continues to update its database so the more you update content on your website, the more Google will see your website as active. Where the real magic happens is when Google starts to see people engaging and referring to that content, that’s how the ranking works. The more the public sees you as a reliable source the more likely Google is to refer you to them.

A website is not a “set it and forget it” kind of thing. While it might seem like a lot of work to keep your website up to date, it’s worth it for many reasons. Just like any other tool, your website needs regular maintenance in order to function properly and remain relevant. By keeping your website up-to-date, you can avoid potential security risks, provide a better user experience, and earn Google’s favor. Do you make sure to keep your website updated?
